Fantasy Warfare

RAW Magazine - February 2006

Andre The Giant & Haku vs. Big Show & Kane
In December 1989, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan took two of the most vicious WWE Superstars ever, Andre The Giant and Haku, and combined their abilities to form The Colossal Connection. Though their tenure as a team only lasted a brief five months, they dominated the tag team division and left an indelible impression on WWE fans to this day.

On November 1,2005 Kane and Big Show won their first World Tag Team Championship, defeating Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch in impressive fashion. Their current reign has been nothing short of incredible. They have blazed past the best the WWE has to offer on both Raw and Smackdown. A match between these two teams would truly be colossal.

Andre & Haku

Strengths

-Sheer Brutality: Both Andre and Haku specialized in inflicting acute physical and psychological pain on their opponents.

-Pop Goes The Weasel: Bobby "The Brain" Heenan always had a cunning plan up his sleeve.

-Intimidation Factor: Some opponents fell apart at the mere sight of the Giant.

Weaknesses

-Ruthlessness: Their desire to hurt their opponents at any cost sometimes blinded them from scoring the victory.

-Team Cohesiveness: Both men were strong and prideful individuals with egos that didn't always allow for the achievements of others.

Key Wins

-December 13, 1989: Defeated Demolition to win the WWE Tag Team Titles.

-January 13, 1990: Defeated Demolition to retain the WWE Tag Team Championship at the Boston Garden.

-March 19, 1990: Defeated The Rockers to retain the WWE Tag Team Championship at the Miami Arena in Miami, Florida.

Key Losses

-April 1, 1990: Lost the WWE Tag Team Title to Demolition at Wrestlemania VI after Haku accidentally Superkicked Andre.

-April 10, 1990: Lost by countout to Demolition in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Trademark Maneuvers

-Patented Chops from both Andre and Haku
-Andre's Elbow Drop
-Haku's Crescent Kick

Strategy

-Cheat to Win: Members of the Heenan Family have no regard for the rulebook and will do whatever necessary to come up with a win.

-Strike Quickly and Powerfully: At this point in his career, Andre's stamina was declining. Having him spend long sequences in the ring may allow for an opening in his defense.

Big Show & Kane

Strengths

-The Power of Two: Two of the most powerful individuals to ever step foot in a WWE ring.

-Balancing Act: Kane's deceptive agility combined with the raw force of Big Show has shown to be an unbeatable formula for success so far.

Weaknesses

-Inexperience: Though they're a dominant tag team in WWE, Kane and Show have not worked together long. A more experienced team may exploit this.

Key Wins

-October 31, 2005: Defeated The Heart Throbs in a Texas Tornado match on Raw.

-November 1, 2005: Defeated Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch to win the World Tag Team Championship.

-December 18, 2005: Defeated Smackdown tag team champs Rey Mysterio and Batista at Armageddon.

Key Losses

-Since their unification in October 2005, Kane and Big Show have been unstoppable. Some of the biggest behemoths in the WWE, including Bobby Lashley, Gene Snitsky and Batista have fallen victim to their double Chokeslam.

Trademark Maneuvers

-Double Chokeslam from Hell
-Kane's Tombstone Piledriver
-Big Show's Press Slam

Strategy

-Isolate The Smaller Man: Cutting the ring in half and concentrating their offense on the smaller Haku.

-Brawn Over Brain: They must be cognizant of "The Brain" at all times.

-Quick Tags: The Giant likes to wear down and toy with his opponents. Kane & Big Show must stay fresh.

FINAL ANALYSIS

Though both teams possess a great amount of strength and tenacity, the true advantage in this match may go to The Colossal Connection, simply on the basis of "The Brain" in their corner. His interference and underhanded strategies repeatedly proved to be the X-factor. On the other hand, his plans have backfired on several occasions. In addition, the always-uneasy friendship between Andre and Haku may allow a very hungry and focused team such as Kane and Big Show to take the advantage and score the win over two WWE legends.
